BIO

Born into a very musical family, Joe began playing the drums at age two and hasn't stopped since.  His touring schedules and recording session dates are a testament to his hard work and dedication to his craft.  He has advanced proficiency in a diverse range of musical styles spanning Funk, R&B, Latin, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Hip Hop and Country.

At age 14, Joe began gigging with Richard Garcia & First Light.  His father Joe Cortez III played keys and his uncle Ralph Cortez was the lead vocalist.  In 2004 Joe joined Full Throttle with longtime friend Keegan Reed and toured opening spots for well known nationals 7 Mary 3, 38 Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pat Green, Jack Ingram, The Eli Young Band and many more.

In 2007, he went on the road with the Bleu Edmondson Band, eventually filming a live concert DVD/CD “Bleu Edmondson Live at Billy Bob’s Texas” in 2008.  Joe is currently touring with Johnny Cooper and couldn’t be happier to be a part of such a talented group of musicians.  The group has performed over 500 shows with Joe behind the kit, and the schedule looks busier than ever.

On top of a busy touring schedule, Joe does session drum work and has a long list of artists and projects that he has worked and recorded with. In the winter of 2007, he began working with the Grammy nominated producer Mack Damon at Hollywood Studio in San Antonio, TX, and has been a part of a good amount of Mack's sessions.

Growing up with his father being a musician and band director, he feels that it is very important to give back and influence those seeking inspiration on becoming great musicians. "The future of music is what we make it," he says. "My biggest inspiration lately has been my son, Atticus. Seeing how quickly he advances and develops into himself reminds me to continually be learning and building greatness upon the strong foundations that exist."

Most importantly, Joe aspires to be positive role model for all kids and young musicians. You can find him on the social networking sites constantly spreading the word of quality music, healthy drumming, and setting a good example of following your dreams and reaching your goals.
